During the first semester in the program, NRT participants will take Interdisciplinarity I, a 1-unit course where students read team science literature on the assumptions that guide scientific practice, communication, and group integration. During the second semester, NRT participants will take Interdisciplinarity II, a 1-unit course that covers past technological innovations that required interdisciplinary collaboration for success. In this course, students will form teams, and they will learn about team catalysts. These teams will include at least two students, who must be from different PhD programs, and they will draft proposals that define a problem and project ideas that they will pursue in the lab. NRT participants will additionally take an Ethics Course and a Team Colloquium, which are both 1-unit courses.
